Dunes House
Curl Curl, NSW
A coastal residence shaped by light, ocean views, and its headland setting.
Situated on a south-facing headland in Curl Curl, this coastal residence responds to both its dramatic outlook and the challenge of capturing northern sunlight. The design frames expansive views toward Manly and the Sydney skyline while carefully shaping light throughout the day.
Arrival unfolds through a sheltered walkway set within a walled garden, culminating at a carved timber entry door. Inside, a sculptural stair rises through three levels beneath a skylight, connecting a sequence of living spaces organised as a series of pavilions. Public areas open to the pool terrace and ocean views, while more private bedroom suites are positioned above with guest accommodation below.
A restrained material palette of oak, limestone, travertine, marble and brass brings warmth and texture to the interiors while maintaining a calm, considered clarity. Durable coastal materials and passive environmental strategies support the home's long-term performance within its exposed marine setting.
